Matter of Time

Released on Christmas Day 2020, Matter of Time is a six-track EP that serves as both a charitable endeavor and a sonic time capsule of the COVID-19 isolation era. The project was anchored by the title track and 'Say Hi,' both written in support of EB Research Partnership, a cause long championed by Vedder. The latter half of the EP consists of 'Acoustic at Home' versions of Pearl Jam staples and a Bruce Springsteen cover, all recorded with a minimalist, lo-fi aesthetic that highlights the raw character of Vedder's voice. Unlike his more polished solo work like the 'Into the Wild' soundtrack, this collection feels intentionally unproduced. It captures a specific moment in history where the world's biggest rock stars were relegated to their living rooms, resulting in a document that is more about connection and empathy than musical innovation. The inclusion of 'Porch' - originally a high-octane grunge centerpiece - reimagined as a skeletal folk song, provides the EP's most striking artistic pivot.
