Mirror Reaper

Mirror Reaper is the third full-length album by Seattle-based duo Bell Witch, released in 2017. It stands as a landmark in the funeral doom genre, notable for being a single continuous track spanning over 83 minutes. The album is a deeply personal eulogy for former drummer Adrian Guerra, who passed away during the writing process. In a poignant tribute, the band incorporated unused vocal tracks from Guerra into the composition, creating a 'conceptual turn' where the living and the dead share the same musical space. Sonically, the album is unique for its lack of traditional electric guitar, relying instead on Desmond's innovative bass techniques, Shreibman's drumming, and occasional Hammond organ. It was recorded by legendary producer Billy Anderson, who captured a massive, dynamic sound that ranges from delicate, clean passages to crushing walls of distortion. The artwork by Mariusz Lewandowski has since become iconic within the metal community, perfectly mirroring the album's themes of transition and the afterlife.
