Monoceros

Recorded in 1978 for Incus Records, Monoceros is widely considered the definitive statement of Evan Parker's solo soprano saxophone language. The album's primary technical distinction is its direct-to-disk recording process, which bypassed magnetic tape to capture the performance directly onto a master lacquer. This required Parker to perform long, unbroken improvisations without the possibility of editing, perfectly mirroring the 'no-safety-net' nature of his circular breathing technique.
