My Song

Recorded in November 1977 at Talent Studios in Oslo, My Song represents the pinnacle of Keith Jarrett's 'European Quartet' (featuring Jan Garbarek, Palle Danielsson, and Jon Christensen). Following the success of 1974's Belonging, this album solidified the group's reputation for a 'holistic transcendence' that differed sharply from the looser, more aggressive energy of Jarrett's American quartet. Produced by Manfred Eicher and engineered by Jan Erik Kongshaug, the record features the signature ECM sound: a high-fidelity, spacious mix that emphasizes the natural decay of the piano and the icy, vibrato-less tone of Garbarek's saxophone. The compositions are notably melodic and structured compared to Jarrett's solo works, drawing from folk, gospel, and classical influences.
