Oscillation

Released in 2013, Oscillation represents the seventh and final studio chapter for Trail of Tears before their initial hiatus. Recorded at Sound Suite Studio in France with producer Terje Refsnes, the album is a masterclass in the 'Beauty and the Beast' vocal style that defined the genre. Notably, guitarist Bjørn Erik Næss performed all drum parts on the recording despite the listing of a dedicated drummer in the credits. Sonically, the album moves away from the pure symphonic black metal roots of the band's early years, opting for a more polished, contemporary metal sound that incorporates elements of power metal and industrial synth textures. Critical reception noted the album's high production values and the commanding performance of Cathrine Paulsen, whose vocals provide the emotional core of the record.
