Released in 1981 as the follow-up to the massive success of British Steel, Point of Entry represents Judas Priest's most overt attempt at capturing the American FM radio market. Recorded at Ibiza Sound Studios in Spain, the environment clearly bled into the music, resulting in a lighter, more rhythmic, and 'airy' sound compared to the industrial grit of their previous efforts. While it features the iconic twin-guitar duo of Tipton and Downing, the focus shifts from complex duels to unified, catchy riffs. The album is notable for its 'desert rock' atmosphere, particularly on the fan-favorite 'Desert Plains.' Critically, it was initially viewed as a step back from the band's heavier roots, but it has since gained a cult following for its unique production and laid-back energy.
