Private Space represents a significant stylistic pivot for Durand Jones & The Indications, moving away from the lo-fi '60s soul revivalism of their debut and 'American Love Call' toward a more polished, disco-and-synth-heavy sound. Recorded in a cabin in upstate New York, the album was born out of a desire to create something 'escapist' and 'joyful' following the isolation of 2020.
