Released in early 2018 as a limited edition white-label vinyl EP, Repeat / Texture represents a more focused, experimental side of Hammock's ambient output. Following the massive, emotionally heavy double album Mysterium, this EP functions as a palate cleanser or a sonic appendix, stripping away the overt orchestral grief of their previous work in favor of pure textural exploration. The four tracks - Union, Groundless, Reconciliation, and Melt - adhere to a strict aesthetic of slow-build guitar swells and minimal melodic intervention. Recorded in Nashville, the EP highlights Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson's ability to manipulate the electric guitar into something unrecognizable as a stringed instrument. Critics noted its 'drone-adjacent' qualities, marking it as one of the duo's most purely ambient releases, leaning away from their post-rock crescendos and toward a more static, meditative minimalism that rewards deep, focused listening.
