Reverie

Released in 2016, Reverie served as a pivotal bridge between Tom Misch's early beat-making days (Beat Tape 1 & 2) and his transition into a fully realized singer-songwriter and guitarist. This 4-track EP solidified his 'bedroom-soul' aesthetic, characterized by a fusion of J Dilla-inspired hip-hop rhythms and John Mayer-esque guitar fluidity. Recorded largely in his home studio, the project features key collaborations, notably with Loyle Carner, which helped define the sound of the emerging South London jazz and hip-hop scene. Critics noted the EP's ability to blend sophisticated jazz theory with accessible, pop-leaning melodies. While brief, Reverie is often cited by fans as the quintessential Misch release, capturing his ability to make complex arrangements feel casual and breezy.
