Rough Trade EP

Released in late 2009, the Rough Trade EP serves as a vital bridge and companion piece to Atlas Sound’s second full-length album, Logos. While Logos was a more polished and collaborative effort, this EP retains the raw, experimental 'bedroom' ethos that defined Bradford Cox’s early solo work. The tracklist features alternate versions of key tracks, including an 'Electronic version' of 'Criminals' and an 'Acoustic version' of 'Kid Klimax,' which highlight the project's dual nature: one foot in glitchy, ambient electronica and the other in skeletal singer-songwriter traditions. The production is characterized by heavy use of the Eventide PitchFactor and tape-looping techniques, creating a signature 'shimmer' that became highly influential in the late-2000s indie scene. Critically, it is often cited as a prime example of the 'hypnagogic pop' or 'chillwave' adjacent sounds of the era, though it maintains a more melancholic, post-punk edge than its peers.
