Sea Wolf

Released in 2006 as the debut EP for Alex Brown Church's project Sea Wolf, this self-titled release (often referred to as the 'Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low' EP in some regions) established the band's signature 'chamber folk' sound. Moving away from the more traditional indie rock of his previous band, Irving, Church utilized the cello as a primary melodic engine, played by Annaliese Kuhen. The EP was recorded during a period of transition and features early versions of tracks that would define the band's career, most notably 'You're a Wolf.' Critically, the EP was praised for its literate songwriting and the distinct, foggy atmosphere it cultivated, which became a hallmark of the mid-2000s indie folk movement. It successfully bridged the gap between the lo-fi bedroom folk of the era and a more sophisticated, orchestral approach to arrangement.
