Silence in the Snow

Released in 2015, Silence in the Snow is Trivium's seventh studio album and remains their most controversial and distinct work due to the total absence of screamed vocals. This shift was partially necessitated by Matt Heafy blowing out his voice at Rock on the Range in 2014, leading to extensive vocal training with Ron Anderson. Sonically, the album draws heavily from classic 80s heavy metal and power metal influences, moving away from the metalcore and thrash hybrids of Shogun or Ascendancy. The album was produced by Michael 'Elvis' Baskette, known for his work with Alter Bridge, which contributed to the record's massive, radio-friendly rock sheen. Despite the lack of harsh vocals, the instrumentation remains technical, utilizing seven-string guitars to maintain a low-end heaviness. It debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200 and solidified the band's ability to headline major festivals with a more accessible, melodic sound.
