Silent Waters

Silent Waters, released in 2007, is the eighth studio album by Amorphis and the second to feature vocalist Tomi Joutsen. It is a concept album focusing on the character Lemminkäinen from the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. Sonically, it solidified the 'new era' of the band, blending the death metal roots of their early career with the melodic, folk-influenced progressive rock of their middle period. Recorded at Finnvox Studios, the production is crisp and lush, emphasizing the interplay between Esa Holopainen's lead guitar work and Santeri Kallio's keyboards. The album was a commercial success in Finland, reaching gold status and further establishing Joutsen as the definitive voice of the band's modern incarnation. It is often cited by fans as the most cohesive and atmospheric of the Joutsen-era trilogy, which began with Eclipse and concluded with Skyforger.
