Suicide Silence

Released in 2017, the self-titled Suicide Silence album is one of the most debated releases in the history of the deathcore genre. Produced by the legendary Ross Robinson, known for his work with Korn and Slipknot, the album saw the band almost entirely abandon the blast beats and technical breakdowns of their past. Instead, they embraced a 1990s-inspired alternative metal sound characterized by clean vocals, groove-oriented structures, and a 'live-in-the-room' production aesthetic. This shift was met with significant backlash from their core fanbase, leading to the infamous 'tee-hee' meme regarding the lead single 'Doris.' Despite the controversy, the album stands as a bold attempt to redefine the band's trajectory following the tragic death of original vocalist Mitch Lucker and the subsequent pressure on his successor, Eddie Hermida. It remains a singular, divisive moment in their discography.
