Released in May 2017, Tales of TacoBella serves as a pivotal bridge in Rico Nasty's career, marking the formal introduction of her 'Sugar Trap' subgenre. Following the success of 'Sugar Trap' (2016), this project refined her aesthetic, moving away from standard trap tropes toward a more melodic, synth-heavy sound influenced by bubblegum pop and cloud rap. Produced largely by collaborators like Kenny Beats and others who understood her vision, the album features a cleaner, more polished sonic profile than her later punk-influenced work. It was during this era that Rico began to gain significant traction outside of the DMV area, fueled by the viral success of tracks like 'Block List.' The album is notable for its lack of features, allowing Rico's dual personas - the aggressive rapper and the melodic songstress - to take center stage.
