Following the increasingly melodic 'Carnival of Light', this album saw the band - specifically primary songwriter Andy Bell - lean heavily into a '60s garage and psychedelic rock aesthetic. The recording was famously fraught with internal tension, leading to the band's breakup shortly before the album's release.
