Intro

Ride emerged from Oxford in 1988 as a central pillar of the UK shoegaze movement, famously signed to Creation Records. Their sound identity is defined by a 'Big Music' approach to the genre, blending the jangle of the Byrds with the feedback-drenched intensity of My Bloody Valentine.

Unlike their more reclusive peers, Ride maintained a muscular, rock-oriented rhythm section, largely thanks to Laurence Colbert's inventive, high-energy drumming. Their career arc saw a rapid ascent with 'Nowhere' and 'Going Blank Again', followed by a divisive shift toward 60s-inspired psych-rock on 'Carnival of Light' and a fractured breakup in 1996. Following Andy Bell's tenure in Oasis, the band's 2014 reunion proved remarkably fertile, resulting in a trilogy of modern albums that integrate electronic textures and synth-pop elements while maintaining their signature guitar density. Critically, they are regarded as the most 'accessible' of the shoegaze pioneers, bridging the gap between underground noise and mainstream alternative rock. Their influence is pervasive in modern indie, seen in bands ranging from DIIV to Beach Fossils.
