Released in 2007, Tervaskanto solidified Korpiklaani's position as the premier purveyors of 'Forest Metal.' While their earlier work under the name Shaman was more focused on traditional Sámi elements, this album represents the peak of their transition into a high-energy folk-metal hybrid. The title refers to an old, resin-rich tree stump that is difficult to burn, symbolizing resilience and deep roots. Sonically, the album is defined by the prominent use of the accordion and violin as lead instruments, often relegating the guitars to a rhythmic, supporting role. This shift emphasizes the humppa - a Finnish social dance rhythm - which gives the tracks their signature 'polka-metal' bounce.
