Released in 2011, The Here and Now is the fourth studio album by Architects and stands as the most significant sonic departure in their discography. Following the technical mathcore of Hollow Crown, the band pivoted toward a melodic post-hardcore and alternative metal sound, heavily influenced by the anthemic structures of bands like Alexisonfire. Recorded with producer Steve Evetts, the album prioritized clean vocals, major-key melodies, and traditional song structures over the 'blegh'-infused chaos that would later define their 'Holy Hell' era. Despite its initial polarizing reception among the hardcore faithful, the album was a commercial success in the UK and showcased Sam Carter's range as a melodic vocalist. It features notable guest appearances from Andrew Neufeld (Comeback Kid) and Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan), the latter providing a bridge back to the band's more aggressive roots on the final track.
