The Scene Between

Released in 2015, The Scene Between represents a significant pivot for Ian Parton’s project, The Go! Team. While previous albums were defined by a maximalist, collaborative approach involving a live band and a heavy rotation of rappers and vocalists, this record was almost entirely a solo endeavor by Parton. He wrote, performed, and produced the tracks himself, recruiting a diverse cast of unknown singers from around the world to provide the vocals. The result is a more cohesive, song-oriented album that leans heavily into noise-pop and shoegaze influences. The signature 'playground chant' and hip-hop sampling of their debut, Thunder Lightning Strike, are largely sidelined in favor of 1960s-inspired melodies and a 'wall of sound' production style. Critics, including those at AllMusic, noted the album's return to melodic basics and praised its ability to maintain the band's trademark euphoria through a more focused, indie-pop lens.
