Thunder Perfect Mind

Released in 1992, Thunder Perfect Mind represents a pivotal moment in the Nurse With Wound discography, marking the beginning of Steven Stapleton's long-term collaboration with Colin Potter. The album's title and conceptual origin are famously derived from a dream Stapleton had, which coincided with David Tibet's work on a Current 93 album of the same name. While Tibet's version is a landmark of apocalyptic folk, Stapleton's interpretation is a dual-sided exploration of industrial noise and dark ambient. Track one, 'Cold', is a 23-minute exercise in rhythmic industrial collage, utilizing metallic samples and chaotic percussion. Track two, 'Colder Still', moves into minimalist dark ambient territory, incorporating elements from Tibet's work but stripping them of their folk context to create something far more desolate. The album concludes with a poignant answerphone message from Coil's John Balance, cementing its place within the interconnected web of the UK industrial underground.
