Tracks

Released in 2003, 'Tracks' represents the foundational period of Steve Angello's career, long before the formation of Swedish House Mafia. At this stage, Angello was deeply embedded in the underground house and techno scene, and this album reflects a 'DJ-first' mentality. The tracks are notably long, often exceeding seven or eight minutes, which allows for the slow-burn development characteristic of early 2000s tech-house. Unlike his later work, which embraced maximalism and pop structures, 'Tracks' is minimalist and loop-oriented. It draws heavily from the filtered house sound of the late 90s but strips away the disco samples in favor of tougher, more industrial textures. The album is a significant document of the 'Swedish House' sound before it was exported to festivals, showing a darker, more rhythmic side of an artist who would eventually become synonymous with melodic euphoria. It remains a cult favorite for those who prefer the raw, club-focused origins of the Stockholm scene.
