Transgression

Released in 2005, Transgression is Fear Factory's sixth studio album and stands as their most controversial sonic experiment. Produced by Toby Wright in a rapid 29-day session, the album was a deliberate attempt to move away from the 'machine' aesthetic defined by previous producer Rhys Fulber. It features a more organic production style, utilizing live drum tracking and a lack of the digital editing that characterized their landmark releases like Demanufacture. Lyrically, the album shifts from sci-fi concepts toward more personal and terrestrial themes of mortality and isolation. While it divided the fanbase upon release due to its departure from industrial precision, it is now viewed as a unique document of the band's versatility, featuring guest appearances from Billy Gould (Faith No More) and Mark Morton (Lamb of God). It remains the only album in their discography to lean so heavily into a raw, alternative metal sound.
