We Live

Released in 2004, We Live represents the 'Mark II' era of Electric Wizard. Following the departure of the original rhythm section, founding member Jus Oborn recruited guitarist Liz Buckingham (formerly of Sourvein), bassist Rob Al-Issa, and drummer Justin Greaves. This lineup shift fundamentally altered the band's sonic architecture; the move from a power trio to a quartet allowed for complex guitar interplay and a more 'classic' doom sound reminiscent of the 1970s. The album is notably more melodic and atmospheric than the preceding 'Let Us Prey', leaning heavily into psychedelic textures and ritualistic themes. It was recorded at Toe Rag Studios, known for its vintage analog equipment, which contributed to the album's distinctively warm and 'dusty' sonic profile. Critics often cite this album as the bridge between the band's raw sludge roots and the more polished, occult-rock direction of later releases like 'Witchcult Today'.
