Released in 1999, Wonderful marked a significant milestone for Madness as their first studio album in fourteen years. More importantly, it saw the return of the 'classic' seven-piece lineup, including keyboardist Mike Barson, whose departure in 1984 had signaled the end of the band's initial golden era. Reunited with longtime producers Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, the album was a deliberate attempt to recapture the 'Madness sound' - a blend of ska, Motown, and traditional British pop. The lead single 'Lovestruck' became their first top-ten hit in over a decade, proving their enduring relevance. The album also features a notable collaboration with Ian Dury on 'Drip Fed Fred,' one of his final recordings.
