Intro

20syl creates music that feels like a high-resolution photograph of a classic jazz club. It is impeccably clean, characterized by a 'surgical' approach to production where every snare hit and vocal chop is placed with millisecond precision. While his roots are in the grit of 90s boom-bap, his solo work leans into a bright, digital aesthetic that sparkles with clarity and rhythmic ingenuity.

What truly sets him apart is his background as a world-champion turntablist. He doesn't just use scratches as a transition; he uses the turntable as a melodic lead instrument, weaving rhythmic textures that mimic human speech or synth lines. There is a playful, almost architectural quality to his arrangements, where organic elements like Rhodes pianos and acoustic drums are sliced and reassembled into something futuristic yet deeply soulful.

Start with the 'Motifs' EPs to hear his signature blend of vocal manipulation and heavy swing. It is the kind of music that rewards close listening with headphones but works equally well as a sophisticated backdrop for creative work. It is hip-hop for the design-minded listener.
