Founded in 1994 in Chemnitz, Germany, Accessory (led by Dirk Steyer) emerged as a pivotal force in the second wave of electro-industrial and EBM. Initially operating under the name Voices of Darkness, the project evolved from early techno-influenced experiments into a signature sound that bridged the gap between the melodic sensibilities of synth-pop and the harsh, confrontational nature of aggrotech.

Their signing to the influential Out of Line label in 2000 marked their transition from underground tape-culture to international scene leaders. Throughout the 2000s, Accessory became a staple of the 'Schwarze Szene' (Black Scene) in Germany, touring extensively with genre titans like Hocico and And One. Their sound identity is characterized by 4/4 kick drums, heavily distorted 'shout-singing' vocals, and complex, layered synth sequences. Critically, they are viewed as masters of the 'dancefloor-filler' within the industrial subculture, often praised for their high production values and ability to maintain a consistent energy across decades of releases, including their recent return to form with 'Elektrik' and 'Dark Dance Of Life'.
