Intro

ACIDMAN sounds like the intersection of a high-energy punk show and a planetarium screening. Their music is defined by a massive, crystalline sound that feels far larger than a three-piece band should be able to produce. You will hear shimmering guitar delays that evoke the vastness of space, suddenly interrupted by jagged, aggressive riffs and a driving rhythm section that keeps the music grounded in rock's physical intensity.

What truly sets them apart is their 'Second Line' approach to songwriting: a blend of post-rock's atmospheric patience and alternative rock's melodic hooks. Nobuo Oki’s vocals transition seamlessly from a breathy, intimate whisper to a powerful, emotive belt, often within the same track. Their arrangements frequently utilize dramatic shifts in volume and texture, moving from skeletal, piano-led passages to wall-of-sound crescendos that feel genuinely epic without becoming overproduced.

For those new to the band, ALMA or A Beautiful Greed offer the perfect entry points. These albums showcase their ability to weave complex themes of life, death, and the universe into songs that remain incredibly catchy and anthemic. It is music for the head and the heart, designed for moments of deep reflection and sudden bursts of inspiration.

Acidman (often stylized as ACIDMAN) is a Japanese rock group. The band was formed in 1997 with four members, Shiibashi Takeshi, Urayama Ichigo, Satou Masatoshi, and Ohki Nobuo. They created two demo tapes together in 1998, but former vocalist Shiibashi Takeshi left in 1999. Ohki Nobuo took his place and became the leader of the group. They continued playing live concerts, and were eventually signed to Toshiba-EMI. The band is often categorized as punk music or alternative rock but their musical style is broader and is said to blend various kinds of individual styles. Ohki Nobuo paints many of the band's album covers.
