Alexisonfire

Alexisonfire emerged from the St. Catharines, Ontario scene in 2001, quickly becoming the figureheads of Canadian post-hardcore.

Their sound identity is built on the 'three-vocalist' model, most notably the contrast between George Pettit's aggressive vocals and Dallas Green's melodic contributions. Historically, they are credited with bringing the screamo and post-hardcore aesthetic to the Canadian mainstream without sacrificing their underground credibility. Their career arc saw them move from the raw, chaotic energy of their 2002 debut to the chart-topping, polished aggression of Crisis (2006). After a hiatus starting in 2011, their 2015 reunion and subsequent 2022 album Otherness demonstrated a shift toward more expansive, atmospheric, and 'heavy psych' influences while maintaining their core intensity. They are deeply influenced by the 90s emotional hardcore of bands like Saetia and the art-punk of Refused. Critical consensus views them as one of the most consistent and influential acts of the 2000s 'emo' boom, praised for their technical proficiency and the emotional resonance of their songwriting.
