Anomie Belle

Sultry, cinematic trip-hop that weaves classical violin through glitchy, late-night beats. A sophisticated blend of intimacy and urban alienation for dark rooms.

Intro

Anomie Belle creates a sound that feels like a noir film set in a modern metropolis. It is lush and inviting yet carries an unmistakable edge of isolation. Her music occupies the space between a velvet-curtained jazz club and a rain-slicked industrial district, where organic strings meet the cold precision of electronic programming. The result is a 'beautiful alienation' that is both deeply personal and grandly cinematic.

What sets her apart is her mastery of contrast. She uses her background as a classically trained violinist to ground her experimental tendencies, layering soaring string arrangements over slithery, seductive beats. Her vocals are a focal point, vacillating between a breathy, intimate whisper and a more dramatic, soulful delivery. This versatility allows her to explore themes of power, sexuality, and the 'American dream' without ever losing the hypnotic, downtempo groove that defines her sound.

Start with the album 'Sleeping Patterns' to experience her foundational trip-hop sound, then move to 'Flux' for a more avant-garde and textured exploration. It is the perfect soundtrack for those moments when you want to disappear into your own thoughts or share a quiet, intense connection with someone else in the dead of night.

Anomie Belle Campbell (an·o·me bel), born Toby Potter Campbell is an American multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, producer, and artivist from Seattle. Originally a classically trained violinist and songwriter, Belle began writing and recording music as a child. Belle has since developed an eclectic and avant-garde musical style that incorporates aspects of electronic, classical, art pop, experimental, trip hop, glitch, and soul. Belle's music grapples with issues ranging from critiques of power to intimacy and sexuality, and often explores the emotional experiences of "beautiful alienation" created by the isolation and passive guilt of unsustainable lifestyles that are destructive to human well-being and the natural environment. Belle has also highlighted these issues in collaboration with artists across disciplines, including Culture Jammers such as The Yes Men and transgender choreographer, Sean Dorsey. Belle is openly queer and blurs typical representations of sexuality and gender.
