Glitchy, soulful trip-hop that feels like a rainy night in a neon-lit city. Tense electronics meet breathy, vulnerable vocals for a beautifully bruised atmosphere.
Mr. Meeble creates a sound that is simultaneously high-tech and deeply human. It is the sound of a circuit board weeping, where precision digital glitches and stutters are used to frame raw, organic emotions. The music carries the DNA of classic Bristol trip-hop but updates it with a restless, experimental edge that feels both vintage and futuristic. It is heavy with atmosphere, often feeling like a private confession whispered over a backdrop of shifting electronic shadows.
What truly sets them apart is the contrast between the 'visceral emotion' of the songwriting and the 'whizzes, bleeps, and scratches' of the production. While many electronic acts hide behind their machines, Mr. Meeble uses them to amplify the sense of isolation and longing. The vocals are often breathy and intimate, reminiscent of Air or Thom Yorke, providing a soft landing for the sharp, jagged edges of the percussion and the ominous, plodding basslines.
Start with 'Never Trust The Chinese' to experience their most cohesive statement of dark, sensual pop. It is an album that rewards deep listening, revealing layers of orchestral strings and chilled-out Rhodes piano beneath the surface-level glitch. If you want something slightly more refined and focused on the interplay between melody and digital decay, the 'Nostalgic For Now' EP is the perfect follow-up.
Mr. Meeble was an electronic rock band from Phoenix, Arizona, formed in late 2005 by Devin Fleenor and Michael Plaster. The band grew its fan base primarily via websites such as YouTube, and continued to self-release music and videos on its label, Absolute Motion. They were regarded for their visually elaborated live shows, combining video projections, RGB lasers and other custom-made visual devices to enhance the mix of electronics and live instrumentation. A writer for Wired described their sound as "coded into the musical matrix somewhere between Depeche Mode and Massive Attack". Another journalist wrote that "Mr. Meeble's sound falls somewhere between Radiohead and Stereolab". In their biography, the band names Thom Yorke and Air as influences.
