Asheni

Asheni is the solo project of Angela Heldmann, a German-born artist whose identity is inextricably linked to the Ibiza chillout scene. Raised on the island, her sound reflects the 'Balearic' ethos: a genre-fluid, atmospheric approach to electronic music designed for sunrises and sunsets.

Heldmann first gained prominence as a frequent collaborator and vocalist for the trance project York (Torsten Stenzel), contributing to several high-profile chillout and trance anthems. Her solo work as Asheni, particularly the 2008 landmark 'Butterfly Survival Kit', represents a shift toward a more sophisticated nu-jazz and downtempo palette. Critically, she is noted for her 'retro-modern' approach, intentionally incorporating acoustic instruments like accordion and trumpet to counteract the coldness of digital production.
