Attomica

Attomica is a seminal Brazilian thrash metal band formed in 1985 in Sao Jose dos Campos. They are a crucial part of the 'second wave' of Brazilian metal, emerging alongside giants like Sepultura and Sarcofago but carving out a niche with a sound that leaned more heavily toward technical speed and thrash metal rather than the burgeoning death/black metal styles.

Their career is marked by significant stylistic shifts, moving from the 'snotty' speed metal of their 1987 debut to the highly technical, 'ultra-fast' thrash of their 1991 magnum opus, 'Disturbing the Noise'. This album in particular earned them international underground acclaim for its relentless tempo and sharp songwriting. Despite a hiatus in the mid-90s, the band's legacy was preserved by the cult status of their early Cogumelo Records releases. They reformed in the early 2000s, continuing to represent the enduring power of the Brazilian thrash scene. Critically, they are respected for their ability to balance the chaotic energy of the South American underground with the structural discipline of North American thrash.
