Azaghal

Azaghal is a cornerstone of the Finnish black metal scene, formed in 1995 in Hyvinkää. Led by the prolific Narqath, the band has maintained an incredibly high output of full-lengths, EPs, and splits, cementing their status as a workhorse of the underground.

Their sound identity is rooted in the 'Finnish style': a combination of raw, lo-fi production, melodic sensibilities derived from folk and thrash, and a relentless, aggressive tempo. Unlike the more atmospheric Norwegian scene, Azaghal's work often feels more visceral and grounded in punk-like energy. Over their career, they have transitioned from a purely demo-driven raw aesthetic to a more robust, though still uncompromising, studio sound. They occupy a central position in a web of Finnish acts including Horna and Behexen, sharing members and a similar ideological commitment to traditional black metal themes.
