Azure

Azure (Sweden) is a melodic black/death metal project formed in 1995 by Robban Kanto. While sharing a name with several unrelated entities, the Swedish Azure is defined by its 'Hevalia' concept, a persistent fantasy setting that informs the lyrical narrative across their discography.

Musically, they emerged from the second wave of black metal but quickly distinguished themselves through technicality, particularly after recruiting members from Naglfar and Embracing. Their sound is characterized by melodic tremolo picking, complex drum patterns, and a production style that favors organic warmth over the 'necro' lo-fi aesthetic typical of their contemporaries. Critically, they are viewed as a cult gem of the Swedish scene, bridging the gap between the melodicism of Dissection and the progressive leanings of later extreme metal. Their career arc peaked with 'King Of Stars - Bearer Of Dark', which refined their technical approach while concluding long-running narrative threads.
