Intro

Imagine a smoke-filled 1940s lounge suddenly injected with the raw adrenaline of a 1990s rock club. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy captures that precise intersection, where the sophistication of Duke Ellington meets the punchy delivery of jump blues. The music is defined by its massive horn section, which provides a wall of sound that is both technically precise and wildly exuberant. It is impossible to sit still when the rhythm section kicks into a high-speed shuffle.

What sets them apart is their commitment to the 'revival' aspect without feeling like a museum piece. While they honor the legends like Cab Calloway, their production is crisp and modern, emphasizing the percussive snap of the drums and the growl of the baritone sax. There is a specific California cool to their swagger, a sun-drenched take on the classic East Coast jazz club aesthetic that feels uniquely approachable and fun.

Start with 'Americana Deluxe' to hear the band at their commercial and creative peak. It contains the essential hits that defined the swing craze of the late 90s and serves as a perfect primer for their blend of original songwriting and classic covers. It is the ultimate soundtrack for when you need the room to feel ten times more alive.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is a contemporary swing revival band from Southern California. Their notable singles include "Go Daddy-O", "You & Me & the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby)", and "Mr. Pinstripe Suit". The band played at the Super Bowl XXXIII halftime show in 1999. The band was originally formed in Ventura, California, in 1989 by leader Scotty Morris (guitar and vocals). The band was named Big Bad Voodoo Daddy after Scotty Morris met blues guitar legend Albert Collins at one of the latter's concerts. "He signed my poster 'To Scotty, the big bad voodoo daddy'," Morris explains. "I thought it was the coolest name I ever heard on one of the coolest musical nights I ever had. So when it came time to name this band, I didn't really have a choice. I felt like it was handed down to me." Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren are the two original members who have appeared in every incarnation of the band. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has concentrated on performing their own interpretations of swing music of the 1940s and 1950s and original songs in a similar style, regularly touring and performing worldwide.
