BIP is a seminal Indonesian rock outfit formed in 2000 by ex-members of the legendary band Slank: Bongky Marcel, Indra Qadarsih, and Pay Burman. Following their departure from Slank in 1996, the trio reunited to create a project that leaned more heavily into blues-rock and alternative textures.
Their early work with vocalist Irang Perdana Arkad, notably 'Turun Dari Langit', established a raw, garage-inflected sound. However, the arrival of Ipang Lazuardi in 2003 marked a significant evolution, bringing a soulful, raspy vocal identity that became the band's trademark. BIP occupies a unique cultural space in Indonesia, bridging the gap between mainstream pop-rock and the more rebellious 'Potlot' scene. Their influence is felt in the way they integrated sophisticated keyboard arrangements into high-energy rock. Critically, they are viewed as the 'grown-up' alternative to their predecessors, maintaining a loyal cult following through decades of lineup shifts and independent releases.
