Bob Sinclar

Bob Sinclar, the primary alias of Christophe Le Friant, is a foundational figure in the French house movement. Emerging in the late 1980s as 'Chris the French Kiss,' Le Friant initially focused on hip-hop and acid jazz, co-founding Yellow Productions in 1993.

The transition to the Bob Sinclar persona in 1998 marked a shift toward a cinematic, disco-infused house sound inspired by 1970s French cinema. His early work, particularly the 'Gym Tonic' collaboration with Thomas Bangalter, helped define the 'French Touch' through its use of heavy compression and filtered loops. In the mid-2000s, Sinclar pivoted toward a more acoustic, world-influenced sound with the 'Africanism' project and the 'Western Dream' album, which yielded massive global hits. Critically, he is viewed as a bridge between the niche house underground and mainstream pop success.
