Breakdown of Sanity

Breakdown of Sanity (BoS) is a seminal Swiss metalcore outfit that emerged from Bern in 2007, quickly becoming a flagship for the DIY movement within the heavy music scene. Founded by guitarist Oliver Stingel, the band bypassed traditional label structures for much of their career, self-producing and self-financing their output while achieving international reach.

Their sound identity is built on a foundation of 'moshcore' - a subgenre of metalcore that prioritizes rhythmic breakdowns and high-energy grooves over complex lead work or clean choruses. Critically, they are lauded for their production quality, specifically the use of sub-bass drops and a 'wall of sound' approach that feels both mechanical and massive. Despite a hiatus in 2017, their return with singles like 'Black Smoke' in 2021 solidified their status as masters of the modern breakdown. They occupy a unique space between the melodic sensibilities of August Burns Red and the sheer rhythmic brutality of deathcore peers like Whitechapel, influencing a generation of 'bedroom' metal producers with their high-fidelity, independent approach.
