C Duncan

Intricate vocal harmonies and classical precision meet bedroom pop intimacy. Shimmering, multi-layered songs that feel like a private gallery of sound.

Intro

C Duncan creates music that feels like a meticulously crafted miniature world. It is characterized by a soft, luminous glow, where hundreds of vocal tracks are stacked to create a choral effect that is both grand and deeply personal. The sound is a bridge between the formal beauty of classical composition and the hazy, accessible warmth of modern dream pop.

What truly sets him apart is the isolationist nature of his craft. Most of his early, breakthrough work was recorded entirely alone in a Glasgow bedroom, one instrument at a time. This results in a unique tension between the vast, symphonic ambition of the arrangements and the intimate, slightly lo-fi texture of the recording itself. It is music that rewards close listening, revealing hidden counter-melodies and subtle harmonic shifts with every play.

Start with his debut album, Architect. It perfectly captures his signature blend of acoustic folk foundations and soaring, multi-tracked vocal arrangements. It is the ideal entry point for anyone who appreciates the intersection of high-art composition and indie-pop sensibility.

Christopher Duncan (born 29 July 1989) is a Scottish composer and musician. His compositions have been featured on various television programmes, including Waterloo Road, and have been performed by Icebreaker and the Sirens of Titan choir. His first solo single, "For", was released in December 2014. He is currently signed to Bella Union. His debut album Architect was nominated for the 2015 Mercury Music Prize. In October 2016, he released his second album The Midnight Sun. On 18 January 2019 Duncan announced his third album, Health, would be released on 29 March 2019. On the same day, he released the first single from Health, "Impossible". Health was produced by Elbow's Craig Potter at Blueprint Studios at Salford, Manchester, and will be Duncan's first album he did not record and produce entirely by himself. The album was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award 2019.
