Centavrvs

Centavrvs is a pivotal project in the 21st-century 'neofolklor' movement, originating from Mexico City in 2012. Founded by Demián Gálvez, DJ Rayo, Paco Martínez, and Alan Santos, the group emerged with a mission to deconstruct and rebuild Mexican musical identity.

Their early work, specifically the 'Aniv de la Rev' EP, gained significant cultural traction by remixing traditional Mexican Revolution corridos into electronic soundscapes, a move that was both controversial and widely praised for its boldness. Their sound identity is defined by a sophisticated blend of cumbia, afrobeat, and chicha, all filtered through a lens of modern electronica and indie rock. Critically, they are viewed as leaders in a scene that includes acts like Bomba Estéreo and Chancha Vía Circuito, though Centavrvs maintains a more guitar-driven, psychedelic edge. Their evolution from the sample-heavy 'Pacífico' to the more orchestral and polished 'Sombras de Oro' demonstrates a growing mastery of studio production. They occupy a unique cultural position as 'musical archaeologists,' successfully bridging the gap between millennial electronic tastes and the traditional sounds of their grandparents.
