Condemned

Condemned is a cornerstone of the San Diego brutal death metal scene, formed in 2004 by drummer Forrest Stedt and guitarist Steve Crow. They are widely credited with helping define the 'slamming' sub-aesthetic of the mid-2000s, characterized by ultra-low guttural vocals and a focus on mid-tempo, percussive breakdowns interspersed with high-speed blasting.

Their debut, 'Desecrate the Vile' (2007), remains a cult classic in the genre, lauded for its raw production and the influential vocal performance of Angel Ochoa, who later joined Disgorge. Over two decades, the band has evolved from a straightforward brutal death outfit into a more atmospheric and conceptually ambitious entity, particularly on 'His Divine Shadow' (2017), which introduced sci-fi and cosmic horror elements. Despite numerous lineup changes, Stedt and Crow have remained the creative core, ensuring a consistent focus on technical precision and sonic extremity. They occupy a vital space in the underground metal ecosystem, bridging the gap between old-school gore-focused death metal and the modern, high-fidelity technicality of the current scene.
