Cool

Cool is a foundational South Korean co-ed trio formed in 1994, consisting of Lee Jae-hoon, Yuri, and Kim Sung-soo. Emerging during the first generation of K-pop, they carved out a unique niche by eschewing the intense choreography and dark concepts of their contemporaries in favor of a relatable, 'neighborhood friend' persona.

Their sound identity is defined by a blend of dance-pop, synth-pop, and R&B, often characterized by bright major-key melodies and a distinctive three-part vocal structure. Throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, they became synonymous with summer music in Korea, releasing a string of highly successful seasonal albums. Their career arc saw them dominate the charts with hits like 'Woman on the Beach' and 'Arosu,' maintaining relevance even as the idol industry became more structured. Critically, they are praised for their vocal chemistry and the ability to infuse humor into their performances. They influenced a generation of co-ed groups and established the 'summer anthem' as a viable commercial strategy in the Korean market.
