Crossover

Gritty, high-fashion nihilism set to distorted drum machines. Electroclash that feels like a midnight walk through a decaying city. For dark rooms and sharp edges.

Intro

Crossover, the duo of Mark Ingram (Dez) and Vanessa Tosti (Vee), emerged from the New York City underground at the turn of the millennium. They became central figures in the electroclash scene, a movement characterized by a fusion of 1980s synth-pop, techno, and punk rock ethics.

Their rise was fueled by the 'Fantasmo' bootleg, which eventually caught the attention of DJ Hell, leading to a release on the influential International DeeJay Gigolo Records. This association placed them alongside peers like Miss Kittin & The Hacker and Fischerspooner. Their sound is defined by minimalist hardware-based production, utilizing distorted 808/909 kicks and sharp, sawtooth synth leads. Culturally, they represented the 'Mystik Trucker' aesthetic, incorporating multimedia elements and hand-bound literature into their performances. While the electroclash hype faded by the mid-2000s, Crossover maintained a niche following by leaning into darker, more experimental electronic territories on later releases like 'Space Death' and 'Funeral Flowers'. They are critically regarded as one of the more authentic, less commercialized acts of their era.
