Decapitated

Decapitated is a cornerstone of the Polish death metal scene, originally formed in 1996 by the Kiełtyka brothers. They gained immediate international attention for their debut, 'Winds of Creation,' which showcased a level of technical proficiency and songwriting maturity that belied their teenage years.

The band's sound is anchored by Wacław 'Vogg' Kiełtyka's distinctive guitar work, characterized by surgical staccato riffing and a transition from pure technical death metal toward a more groove-oriented, modern metal style. The band's trajectory was tragically altered by a 2007 bus accident that claimed the life of visionary drummer Vitek and left vocalist Covan incapacitated. Despite this, Vogg reformed the group in 2009, leading them into a new era of critical and commercial success. Their later work, particularly 'Anticult' and 'Cancer Culture,' incorporates elements of thrash and industrial metal, cementing their status as innovators who successfully bridged the gap between underground technicality and mainstream extreme metal appeal. They are widely cited as a primary influence on the modern 'tech-death' and 'djent' movements.
