Default emerged from Vancouver in 1999 as a central figure in the second wave of post-grunge. Their debut album, 'The Fallout' (2001), achieved platinum status in the US, buoyed by the massive success of the power ballad 'Wasting My Time'. While their subsequent albums 'Elocation' and 'One Thing Remains' saw diminishing returns in the US market, they remained a staple of Canadian rock radio, earning a Juno Award and maintaining significant domestic sales. The band's trajectory is notable for the eventual transition of frontman Dallas Smith into a highly successful country music career, which influenced the band's later, more melodic leanings before their 2013 hiatus.
