Demolition Hammer

Demolition Hammer is a seminal American thrash metal band from the Bronx, New York, recognized as a primary architect of the 'deathrash' sound. Formed in 1986, they emerged during the tail end of the thrash boom, distinguishing themselves through a level of aggression that far surpassed the 'Big Four.'

Their sound identity is defined by the Scott Burns-produced 'Tortured Existence' and the hyper-refined 'Epidemic of Violence,' which utilized blast beats, complex time signatures, and a percussive vocal delivery by Steve Reynolds. While they never achieved the mainstream success of Anthrax or Overkill, they are considered a 'musician's band' within the underground, influencing the development of technical death metal and groove metal. Their 1994 album 'Time Bomb' marked a controversial shift toward a slower, Pantera-esque groove style that led to their initial dissolution. Following the tragic death of drummer Vinny Daze in 1996, the band's legacy was preserved through the 'Necrology' anthology.
