Deranged

Formed in 1991 in Hjärup, Sweden, Deranged occupies a unique position in the death metal canon. While they emerged during the peak of the Swedish death metal explosion, they famously rejected the melodic 'Sunlight Studios' sound associated with Entombed or Dismember.

Instead, they drew heavy influence from the more aggressive, percussive American scene (Deeds of Flesh, Suffocation), earning them a reputation as Sweden's most 'un-Swedish' death metal export. Their sound is characterized by Rikard Wermén's relentless blast beats and a lyrical obsession with horror cinema, specifically slasher films. Over three decades, they have maintained a steadfast commitment to the underground, surviving numerous lineup changes while keeping their core aesthetic of high-speed rhythmic violence intact. Critically, they are respected for their longevity and for providing a bridge between the early 90s death-grind transition and the modern brutal death metal movement.
