Haemorrhage

Haemorrhage is a cornerstone of the Spanish extreme metal scene, specifically within the goregrind subgenre. Formed in Madrid in 1990, the band evolved from a trio named Devourment into a definitive five-piece unit that bridged the gap between the early UK grindcore sound and the more structured death metal of the mid-90s.

Their sound identity is heavily indebted to the 'Symphonies of Sickness' era of Carcass, utilizing pitch-shifted vocals, medical terminology, and a 'surgical' visual aesthetic involving blood-stained scrubs and pathological artwork created by guitarist Luisma. Throughout their career, they have maintained a consistent presence on influential labels like Morbid Records and Relapse Records. Critically, they are respected for their longevity and for injecting a sense of groove and 'grind-and-roll' into a genre often criticized for being monochromatic. They remain a primary influence for modern goregrind acts, maintaining a cult following through their theatrical live performances and uncompromising dedication to their niche aesthetic.
