Domain

Domain is a foundational German heavy metal band, originally formed in 1986 under the name Kingdom before rebranding. They represent the melodic wing of the Teutonic metal scene, diverging from the harsher thrash of their contemporaries to embrace a style influenced by Rainbow, Deep Purple, and Yngwie Malmsteen.

Their career is marked by two distinct phases: an initial run of high-quality melodic metal in the late 80s and early 90s, and a 21st-century resurgence that leaned heavily into symphonic and progressive concept albums. Led by guitarist Axel Ritt, the band has maintained a reputation for high technical proficiency and polished production. Critically, they are viewed as a 'musician's band' due to their neoclassical leanings and complex arrangements. They occupy a cultural space alongside acts like Axel Rudi Pell and Bonfire, serving as a bridge between traditional hard rock and the more fantastical elements of modern power metal.
